This is a "travelling diary". A blog where our clients can share their trip experiences, the fellings that this Tropical Paradise engendered and evenings spent on the beach under the stars... .
After four years I found my self sharing with my heart and mind, profund emotions that only one place, surrounded by the ocean, can arrouse. I'm at the Maldives. To get here was quite long, but well worth it.
Starting from the stern all the way to the prow, Fabio and Fedi have been fishing for more then two hours fish of all kinds, with a fishing-line in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
Life on board is extremly relaxing. At the beginning, before leaving, I though to myself that sharing small spaces in a boat with 7 strangers could have definately been tough. But to my big surprise it became a great life style: some passengers are relaxing, some are catching up on work, and others like myself are taking the time to write everything that they are experiencing.
Lets talk about the boat
Completly made out of wood, with the hull planking and the deckhouse all covered in wood pannels. It is definately a "spartan" boat, let's just say that it isn't a luxury Yatch. It is about 24mt in lenght a typical Maldivian boat with a lot of room to tan and relax. The refreshments area is outside on the deck towards the prow. Very characteristic is also the sundeck area where you can get to by crossing a few steep stairs. Two mainmasts, or should I say two wooden poles, without a doubt created to hold some ropes. Everything is held together by a numerous amount of nots fastened to the guardrail. All of these elements create our floating residence.
A day has gone by and I haven't written anything, I will try and summarize every moment experienced yesterday.
hmm let's see, as usual we woke up with a few energizing cups of coffee, don't worry the coffee here cannot be compared to the ones "made in Italy". It simply consists of boiling water with instant coffee and between a few bites of some delicious square cookies we got ready for our morning surfing session.
We are extremly lucky this morning the waves are smiling over at us creating an adrenaline high! To be away of my daily work routine is already heaven but when you see these waves it is truly a surfer's dream come true. Perfect glossy waves, hot transparent water where you can see the coral underneath it.
As we came out of the water we all sat around the table to start off the "real " breakfast, which consisted of: sausages, omelettes, toasted bread with either nutella or peanut butter for those of us not looking after the waiste line... for those of us that are..a light layer of fruity jam. With our full bellies we once again looked over at the line-ups... this time the waves were unfeasible, we all waited around for about an hour all hopeful that another surf session would come our way. Unfortunately a big group of black rainy clouds came fast towards us, as we were realizing that the storm was coming the visibility dropped to about 50 mt. Our floating residence was soon taken over by a typical tropical storm. With an annoying crosswise wave our stomach were put to the test...to weigh the anchor in those conditions was not a simple thing to do, infact it took us a good half an hour of dancing around looking for a reassuring gaze as the crew of "Hammer Head" was trying to free the anchor from the bottom of the ocean. All of this fun experience was not easy in such weather conditions because of the massive holes in the coral.
The excursion to Fisherman Island. Fabio, Peppe and I after two incredible surfing hours in the afternoon, decided to set foot onto something a little more stable, we then took the dinghy and got to a beautiful nearby island characterized by outstanding vegetation.
As we secured our little boat, we were greeted by a local who barely spoke english but gave us a huge smile... in 5 minutes he took us to his shop and showed us shelves full of hand made products (as he said) created by the locals. I'm going to be honest, I already thought to myself to bring something typical back to a couple of friends and my family, and after reading the sign on the shop counter: Great prices and discounts in our shop, I had to fill a basket full of peculiar objects. Obviously before grabbing anything I kept asking the owner how much the items were, he looked at me smiling saying not to worry because he would have giving me a great discount in the end, he then continued to write on a pad of paper a list of all the object that I was carrying in the bascket... .
